Strategies and Tips from Alessandro Fabian, winner of Challenge Cesenatico 2024

1. Can you take us through your race strategy—what was your game plan from the swim to the finish line?

My strategy in Cesenatico was to be in the front after the swim to manage the best possible the second leg, obviously to stay in front if I could so to have some possibilities to play my cards on the run.

2. Cesenatico offers a stunning but challenging course. What was the toughest part of the race for you, and how did you push through it?

I think for me the toughest part was after the hill, there was a rolling section where was important don’t lose the focus.
So I pushed through the hill and i tried to stay the closest to the front of the race possible.

3. How did you prepare for this race? Were there any specific workouts that helped you perform at your best?

I prepare along the winter with the base at the begging then I did some specific workout to be prepared for the hard part of the course. Like short intervals then longer and a couple simulations just the weeks before the race.

4. Was there a defining moment in the race when you knew you had a real shot at winning? Tell us what was going through your mind at that point.

Yes, there was. After the last climb on the bike, I knew I could be there to play my cards and winning the race. The most of the race was done and quite good so I knew my moment could be close.

5. What advice would you give to athletes who want to compete in Challenge Cesenatico next year? Any key takeaways from your experience?

Be prepare for the hilly section and have some intervals just to avoid to be on the limit from minute one. Be prepare also for the heat, in May could be cold but also warm, so the key is be ready for a race with a lot of adaptations.

For sure Cesenatico is really a good location and the people are really kind and open to have you there.

Enjoy the race!🔥
